How Not to Age by Dr. Michael Greger
I’m going to start off with the newest plant-based book that just came out recently, that I was waiting on pins & needles for! If you know Dr. Michael Greger, then you’ve probably read or heard of his How Not to Die and How Not to Diet books, which were fantastic!
In this newest installment of the trilogy, Dr. Greger focuses on aging and all the science behind how our cells age and what we can do that ACTUALLY works to slow down the aging process to live not just longer, but healthier as we grow older.
I love how he takes complicated science and makes it easy to understand and then gives simple, actionable steps we can take starting TODAY to make a difference. You’ll love this book!

Plant-Based on a Budget Quick & Easy: 100 Fast, Healthy, Meal-Prep, Freezer-Friendly, and One-Pot Vegan Recipes by Toni Okamoto
I here it ALL the time – “I can’t eat plant-based because it’s too expensive”.
No one who eats a plant based diet from healthy whole ingredients says this, because we know the truth – it’s actually LESS expensive than meat, dairy, eggs, and processed foods.
The next excuse I get is about time – “I can’t eat plant-based because I don’t have enough time….” Then that same person will tell me all about the new Netflix series they’ve been binging for 3 hours every night. Hmmm….maybe it’s really just priorities?
But good news because now there’s a brand new plant-based cookbook by Toni Okamoto to disprove both those excuses!
Her new cookbook that came out this year features 100 plant-based recipes that are not only CHEAP, but FAST & EASY! If you think you don’t have enough time or money to eat plant-based, get her cookbook!
Real Superfoods: Everyday Ingredients to Elevate Your Health by Ocean Robbins & Nichole Dandrea-Russert RDN
Two of my biggest plant-based heroes are John Robbins & his son Ocean Robbins, who are the founders of the Food Revolution Network. There mission is to make healthy, ethical & sustainable food for all.
John Robbins actually walked away from millions – his father was the “Robbins” of the ice cream empire Baskin & Robbins – to live a life of purpose, ethics, and health. He went on to write the best-selling book, “Diet for a New America” that inspired millions to eschew meat and dairy, and eat a more plant-forward diet for health & our planet.
Now his son, Ocean is following in his footsteps and his newest plant-based cookbook, along with Nichole Dandrea-Russert RDN, is so delicious, beautiful, and inspiring! It uses everyday ingredients that are actual SUPERFOODS you can find at any grocery store to create incredible dishes that will improve your health.
Plant Powered by Kim Murphy
Ok, I couldn’t leave my OWN plant-based book off the list of my favorites published in 2023, HAHA!
This was a year-long work in progress and something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. My mission when I started Simply Plant Based Kitchen 5 years ago, was to inspire and help people eat whole food plant based to improve their health, lives, and our planet.
So I created this book to distill all the most eye-opening science & research that I’ve learned in 5 years so you can eat healthier to achieve your health & weight goals. I share my own story & journey of going plant-based after losing my father to Alzheimer’s and not wanting to go down that path myself. I include over 20 incredible transformation stories from readers & clients, who’ve been able to reverse many different chronic diseases and get off expensive medications – even in their 50s, 60s, & 70s!
But this book isn’t just about why you should eat more plants. It’s also a roadmap of HOW you can start to make that transition in your own life to become the next success story. It’s not always easy to go against the grain and eat differently than everyone you know. So taking a “Progress Not Perfection” approach is a key in making whole food plant based eating a lifestyle and not another temporary diet.
