What is a Whole Food Plant Based Diet?
Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) is a diet centered on whole plant foods that are minimally processed, and not eating so much or any, animal products, dairy, and processed foods. I encourage you to make whole plant foods the center of your diet instead of an afterthought. This is the opposite of the Standard American Diet (SAD) where 90% of calories comes from meat, dairy, eggs, & processed foods. Let’s flip the script and put whole plant foods front and center!
Most all chronic diseases are caused by poor diet & lifestyle – diabetes, obesity, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, autoimmune disorders, arthritis, cancer, and more – are over 90% preventable & in many cases reversible. Only 5-10% of all cancer & even Alzheimer’s can actually be attributed to genes. “Genes may load the gun, but diet and lifestyle pulls the trigger.”
While the most health benefits come from eating as close to 100% whole food plant based, we are all on different journeys and transitioning can take time. Progress not perfection!
WFPB is all about your best health & longest life. By eating mostly nutrient rich whole plants rather than calorie dense, nutrient poor foods, you’ll lose weight & feel great. Just the way nature intended!
