What I ate Week 8 on the “Eat to Live” Diet

My week 8 of eating whole food plant based was challenging to stay on track with the diet because life got in the way. But I focused on nutrition, health, and simple tips and I still had weight loss by the end of the week. Living a healthy lifestyle is a longterm goal and takes motivation. This week’s post was a hard one to write. But I had promised myself when I started this journey of posting my nutritarian food diary, that I would always be honest. I could have told you that I was 100% perfect this week, but that would be a lie. Real life got in the way and I gave in to temptations….more than once….

This is still difficult to type, but here it goes.

After I got back from San Antonio, I did pretty good for a few days, but for some reason, Friday afternoon, I got kind of down. I’m not really sure why except that it had been very dreary and cloudy for days and that tends to affect my mood. Maybe the lack of Vitamin D….

I fell for my temptation after 2 months….

Anyways, I decided to feed my feelings with food (I sometimes struggle with emotional eating) and after I picked my kids up from school I took them to Chick-fil-A. You may recall if you started with me from Week 1, that Chick-fil-A fries are a HUGE temptation for me. I crave them. I haven’t had them in over 2 months. Until today. Let’s just say I did NOT choose the salad option…

My kids have been eating a nutritarian diet as well so they haven’t been to Chick-fil-A in a long time either. And I don’t want to be a totally awful mom and I do want to teach them restraint when it comes to fast food and eating out. As much as I would like to never feed them fast food, I feel like if I become so strict about it, that they may go crazy later on because I was too restrictive. I don’t know. But considering we used to eat at Chick-fil-A MORE than once a week and they hadn’t had it in over 2 months, I would say we have made some progress.

There had also been multiple school restaurant fundraisers in the past 2 months that we skipped and my youngest child yelled at me for us not attending….

Well, the Chick-fil-A meal, wasn’t the only poor choice this week.

And then there was the kid’s sleepover party….

My youngest son was having his first sleep over this Saturday (he’s 7) and he of course asked if I could buy some real pizza and junk food. I immediately said no, but because I felt like I was being a crazy mom, I ended up giving in. I bought Dgiornos pizzas, Cheetos puffs, Oreos, and Sugar-Free Kool-aid pouches. Yeah….

And of course since it was in the house I couldn’t help myself from eating it. It’s why I have to keep our house void of all temptations. Because I just can’t say no. I can’t even hide it from myself.

Easter candy is calling out my name….I have to stay strong

There were many more temptations this week, but I WAS able to say no thank goodness! This time of year leading up to Easter is hard for me because of the Cadbury Easter Eggs. Those things like SING out my name! And they put them RIGHT AT THE CASH REGISTER. If I get through Easter without eating at least one, it will be a miracle. I was walking through Walmart the other day and spotted them and I literally had to yell “No, no, no, no, no” in my head to make myself keep walking buy. I think I looked like a crazy lady talking to myself.

So there you have it. The truth. I majorly fell off the wagon and about the only thing that really helped me get back on was the fact that I knew I had to write about it. I had promised I would be honest. You wouldn’t know the difference, but I would have. And it would have eaten me up. No pun intended.

Continue following my Eat to Live Journey – Week 9 was I able to get back on track???

I’m glad I was able to get back and STAY on the wagon after 2 days of poor choices. Normally this wouldn’t have happened. I would have kept making poor choices because I would have felt like a failure. Trust me, I DO feel bad, but since this diet is about a lifestyle and not a temporary weight loss then it makes it easy to get back to eating healthy.

Writing down what I eat and reviewing it each week has actually really helped me to see all the GOOD things that I’ve been eating so when I do have slip ups it doesn’t take over my thoughts and emotions.

Since I was able to have my week end with 4 great days of whole food plant based eating and my workouts were much more productive, I was still able to lose a pound this week! That’s a step in the right direction and will help keep me motivated for next week.

Some of you may be reading this and think well, what’s the big deal with eating a little junk food every now and then. Everything’s ok in moderation, right? Well, I think “moderation” is what has led our country to become so obese and sick. We use that word moderation as an excuse to eat whatever we want whenever. So much so, that once a month becomes once a week and becomes once a day to every meal. What exactly is moderation anyway? That term is so vague that it can literally be used to justify almost ANY scenario. Plus, junk food is so addictive that once you start it becomes hard to stop. Besides, you wouldn’t tell an alcoholic to just drink in “moderation”, would you? Just sayin’.
