2 Different Types of Cinnamon
There are 2 different types of cinnamon. What really? Isn’t there just cinnamon??
Actually, there is Cassia & Ceylon cinnamon. Ceylon is the healthier version and also called “True” Cinnamon. There are some problems with Cassia cinnamon having high coumarin content. Unfortunately, if you just buy normal ole ground cinnamon at the local grocery store it is usually Cassia because it’s cheaper, so beware!
You have to make sure the label says Ceylon to get the good stuff – I buy Ceylon Cinnamon on Amazon because I have had a hard time finding it locally.
Health Benefits of Cinnamon
Did you know this inexpensive spice is loaded with antioxidants & is anti-inflammatory? It may even reduce the risk of heart disease and improve the blood markers of people with Type 2 Diabetes. Cinnamon could also have benefits in the fight against dementia by inhibiting the buildup of the tau protein, which is characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease.
Cinnamon may also reduce the risk of cancer, help fight bacterial and fungal infections, and even may fight the HIV virus. Learn more about the health benefits of cinnamon here.
Geez, cinnamon – how did I not know all of your wonderful super powers???
